August 25 - September 1, 2009

Jann Pollard is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society & California Watercolor Society. She was recently awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award from the California Watercolor Association. Her works are in private and corporate collections, internationally. Jann is the cover artist for the lauded Karen Brown travel books series. Jann’s frequent trips to Europe enable her to capture the essence of the many places seen and traveled. Jann has offered watercolor workshops both abroad and in the U. S.

In Jann's own words
"I grew up on a farm in Iowa and think I painted every ‘Paint by Number’ kit available as a child. It was just something I had to do. When I went to college at the the University of Colorado, Boulder, a whole new world of art and architecture opened my eyes. While majoring in Interior Design, I had the opportunity to take numerous art and architecture courses. I can still recall that first smell of oil paint in the classrooms, even today. An avid desire to explore and ‘see the world’, combined with a study of art and architecture, helped to define my style of painting as it is today. Light and texture are primary to my compositions, in which I try to capture the essence and feeling of the many places seen and traveled.

After practicing interior design for 25 years while continuing to paint and enter shows, my work was accepted into a gallery in 1985. Today, I am in two California galleries, teach watercolor workshops internationally, am the cover artist for the Karen Brown Travel books, have co-authored a book and am often called to demonstrate or to be a juror. This is a wonderful “way of life” and I feel quite fortunate to be able to call this my work."

Itinerary
Independent Arrival In Paris

Day 1
5:00 p.m. Hosted Welcome Reception at our centrally located 3 star hotel. Dinner on own.

A sampling of our Destinations

Place des Vosges, one of the greatest architectural ensembles of all times. Thirty-six brick and stone pavilions rise from graceful arcades surrounding a central square creating a remarkably harmonious space. Along the covered arcades, we’ll paint and enjoy antique shops, book sellers and tea salons.

Montmartre – Presided over by the Church of Sacre Coeur, Montmartre was a village on the outskirts of Paris until 1860 when it was incorporated into the City. We’ll enjoy meandering lanes, whitewashed cottages and panoramic views. Paint all day or take a Paris Walks guided tour after lunch.

Ile St Louis – We’ll find a little corner along the River Seine, at the Point St. Louis looking
towards Notre Dame and we’re set for a day of painting. We might do a little browsing,
we’ll definitely visit nearby Berthillon, the famed ice cream shop. We'll hop on a bateaux-mouches and cruise the Seine.

Tuileries Garden, the royal garden of the Louvre Palace was designed by the famous 17th century landscape architect Andre Le Notre. As an option after lunch, you may wish to join Beverly to visit the Louvre for a few hours.

Luxembourg Gardens – have been called the most beautiful, interesting, pleasurable indeed the most Parisian of all the City’s gardens. There is much to see and paint from any vantage point. And then there is the Latin Quarter itself - to window shop or really shop: boutiques, bookstores & boulangeries abound. Tonight Jann will take us on a night-time stroll.

Giverny – One day we’ll venture 50 miles west of Paris to Claude Monet’s gardens and home in Giverny. For over 40 years Monet cultivated his garden and created his canvases. Enjoy wandering through the gardens, poking around the house and catching views of the boat Monet puttered around in. At Giverny, Monet created a pastoral paradise complete with wooden foot-bridge, Japanese garden and lily pond. We’ll also visit the Museum of American Art, devoted to American artists who, like you, followed Monet to Giverny.

Final Day – Breakfast and farewells. Or board the TGV with Jann and Beverly for a week in the Périgord.
